The Japandroids were a big deal in 2013 when they came to the Turner Hall Ballroom. Going with my girlfriend at the time and a few other friends it was our first trip to Milwaukee for a show like this. Their music was aggressive but I didn't expect any moshing. Positioning ourselves in the perfect spot, dead center a few rows back, we waited out the opener until the Japandroids kicked off. When they did the place erupted. It was fantastic, a pit broke out and while it was good natured I thought it best to retreat to the sidelines for the rest of the show. Amongst the chaos I looked and the beer I was holding was upside down and empty. Upon getting out of the pit my girlfriend at the time was fuming mad about the people who dumped beer all over her head. I didn't have the heart to tell her then, nor did I have the heart in the years since then.
