2011-11-05 - Manchester Orchestra
The Cabooze - Minneapolis, MN
When visiting friends in Minneapolis we noticed that Manchester Orchestra was playing in the city that night. On a whim we decided to go. Back in 2011 the online ticket process wasn't so smooth so I was having problems, we decided just to head down early to buy tickets in person. Turns out the Cabooze was not in a great area of town. 5 naive 18/19-year-olds hopped on their first train and decided to wing it. Pulling up to the venue we noticed a sign that stated that the box office is in the bar next door, a rough looking biker bar with many signs stating, in not so polite language, that no-one under 21 should even consider stepping foot inside. Determined to get the tickets we pressed forward and were admonished as our big toes crossed the threshold. Explaining the situation they begrudgingly agreed to sell us our tickets. I pressed my luck and stopped into the men’s room on the way out to take care of business. After peeing in a trough with 6 or so big biker does, we high tailed it out and to the show. Really a pretty cool lineup at the time, Deer Hunter opened for White Denim who opened for Manchester. White Denim was my favorite on the card, but all three were fantastic. A wild night that will probably not be repeated by this now older, more sensible dude.
